Traveling can disrupt your usual yoga practice, but with a little creativity and planning, you can maintain your routine no matter where you go. This guide offers travel-friendly yoga routines, tips for practicing in small spaces, and essential gear recommendations to help you stay centered and balanced during your adventures.

Travel Yoga Essentials

To make your travel yoga practice easier and more enjoyable, consider packing the following items:

  • Travel Yoga Mat: Lightweight and foldable. I like the Blessed Lite advanced grip travel mat by We are Blessed or these ones by Liforme. If you are staying in a hotel email them to check if they have a yoga mat you can use during your stay.
  • Appropriate clothing: Lightweight comfortable clothing or yoga shorts for the heat.
  • Yoga Strap: Rather than packing a yoga strap you can use a belt from a towelling robe or a normal belt.
  • Yoga Towel: Useful for outdoor practices or hot climates.
  • Portable Speaker: For guided sessions or music.
  • Headphones: Useful for doing an early morning online yoga class before the rest of the family wake up.

Simple Yoga Routines for Small Spaces

Here are some routines that can be done in limited spaces, like hotel rooms. If you don’t have a yoga mat just use a beach towel:

Alleviating Travel Stress with Yoga

Travel can be stressful, but yoga can help manage these stressors:

  • Before Flight: Practice gentle stretches and deep breathing at the airport.
  • During Flight: Perform seated yoga poses and breathing exercises. Use a Yoga Nidra recording to calm and soothe.
  • Post-Flight: Focus on poses that help with circulation and reduce stiffness, such as Cat/Cow, Legs Up the Wall and gentle twists.
